The leaf blades of Urochloa mosambicensis are expanded and flattened, up to 2 cm wide near the ring of hairs forming the ligula. The leaf sheath may be hairy. The grass is favoured by hippos, white rhinos and impalas (Van Oudtshoorn, et al, 1991; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; Lowrey and Wright, 1987; iNaturalist).
