These erect stems of Crassula alba var. alba in summer grass near the Highveld town of Balfour present their red flowers above the surrounding grassy competition. The wine-red flower colour, helped by the size of the inflorescence, conveys a strong impact of colour contrast against the green.
The bulk of the foliage of this plant is expected in the basal rosette around the foot of the flower stalk. In this specimen the size of the opposing upper leaf pairs is notably large (Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982).
