Splashes of colour from a big shrub or a large stand of small plants do much for any countryside. Rapport with nature is enhanced by people discovering something unexpected from plant, bird or animal upon a bush visit.

When the colour is provided by indigenous plants the feeling evoked in the discerning onlooker is encouraging. There are people who work hard at hacking out exotic species invading the veld. Still, there are many parts where development diligently leaves as little land “unused” as possible, proud of the "progress" that "improves" nature.

Pristine natural veld is also being used: by those other, often ignored majority of living beings still walking, flying or crawling the earth... unused land so useful to them all.

There are also large parts of the country where exotic plants cause despair, caused by their quick spread and the lack of will or resources to deal with them.
