Considerable variation is present among these Glottiphyllum carnosum branches in terms of colour, shape and size, probably also age. The old plant may still have stem or root connections underground joining these visible parts. Separations would be easy to keep as family secrets.

The branches probably differ in age, clearly differing in growth vigour, caused by differential living resource allocations.

A multitude of old leaves from yesteryear tells of a long life, the vicissitudes of which irrelevant next to any promise of rain for triggering more growth heroics (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
