    The rounded receptacle at the base of a Gazania rigida flowerhead is without scales, as are gazanias generally. The green cup continues into the about cylindrical involucre, comprising several rows of bracts that are roughly hairy.

    Gazania peduncles are hollow, G. rigida ones also woolly.

    From the outside, the ray floret bases in picture appear clawed, their dark basal markings visible on the outside but duller (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
