The leaves of Gazania tenuifolia are narrow with one or a few variable, narrow lateral lobes. The specific name, tenuifolia, is derived from the Latin words tenuis meaning thin and folium meaning leaf, suggesting the leaves of this species are notably thin.

The upper leaf surfaces are pale yellow-green to dark green, sometimes glossy and dark red in parts. The lower surfaces are white from dense, velvety hairiness. The leaf margins are entire and rolled under (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; www.wordsense.eu).
