In profile the flowerhead of Gazania rigens var. leucolaena shows its bell-shaped involucre comprising at least three rows of stiff bracts topping the rounded green cup.
The outer row veers outwards in their acutely pointed tips. The outer two rows are white-woolly on the outside, less so on their broad, prominent midribs. The inner row (or two) with brownish margins is not hairy, shows no midrib and adheres closely to the ray bases.
The ray florets are longitudinally lined in a central band on the outside (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist; Wikipedia).
