The numerous leaves of Gazania rigens var. leucolaena grow from the base in a tuft.
They are simple, narrow and about lanceolate with entire margins. The leaf-tip is pointed, the midrib sunken on the upper surface and the margins rolled under. Some leaves develop a few lateral lobes, as the arm-like ones in picture.
This variety has whitish, felted hairs on both surfaces, although on some leaves they may disappear early.
The photo was taken in Kirstenbosch (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist; Wikipedia).
