Oscularia cedarbergensis flower

The flowers of Oscularia cedarbergensis grow solitary or in small clusters at stem-tips.

One row of oblong, pointy-tipped petals spread around the centre where numerous petals, surrounded by staminodes form a cone. The petal colours vary in pale shades of pink. In picture the outer petal parts are whitish and slightly shiny.

The cone has a broad white base, dented in the middle with dark pink-purple upper staminode parts more erect than below. The stamens have small whitish anthers. There are about five styles as well as nectar glands in the flower base.

Flowering happens mainly in spring and summer when the bushes can be notably floriferous. Flowers are open in daytime only, particularly in sunlight (Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.randomharvest.co.za).
