    Tarchonanthus littoralis trunk

    Tarchonanthus littoralis trunk
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The trunk of a Tarchonanthus littoralis tree is covered in vertically furrowed and fissured, brownish grey bark once it becomes old. Narrow strips are lost gradually, the surface appearing untidy from the dithering or lingering pieces.

The young branches are mostly velvety white, while longitudinal channelling is sometimes visible upon them (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Venter, 2012, Coates Palgrave, 2002; iNaturalist).
