The flowers of Gibbaeum heathii may be attractive even when the supporting leaf-bodies below seem to have suffered in producing them. Leaf age is reflected in colours changing from green to pale yellow or beige and gradually browned in continuously darkening hues.
The succulent calyces follow the leaf colour changes (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
