Lessertia annularis flowers

The peaflower-like flowers of Lessertia annularis grow in racemes, long- or short-stalked from leaf axils. The cup-shaped calyces each has five short lobes, triangular and sparsely hairy.

The banner petals are flexed back, pale pink or occasionally cerise to nearly white with dark vein lines and a whiter patch near the base. The wing petals are dark purple, the large keels rounded below. The flower is about 1 cm long.

Flowering happens late in winter to early spring (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
