The semi-succulent stems of Pelargonium peltatum, commonly the ivy-leaved geranium, in Afrikaans kolsuring (spot sorrel) or rankmalva and previously P. lateripes, may scramble or climb, becoming 4 m high in the vegetation of its habitat.
The species distribution is in the Western Cape from Paarl to the Eastern Cape as far as Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
The habitat is coastal shrubveld, thicket and succulent scrub, sometimes also in clayey soils. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.
This drought resistant plant has been the start of several garden cultivars and possibly hybrids obtainable from nurseries (Euston-Brown and Kruger, 2023; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
