The fruit capsule of Delosperma leendertziae shows its five, by now dry and opened valves covering the locules within which the seeds had grown after the pollen reached the ova.
Seeds are visible in the locules or seed-bearing compartments of capsules of the Delosperma genus when they open, the fruits characterised by the absence of covering membranes under the valves. Delosperma capsules are also hygrochastic, meaning that they open when wet and close when dry. Every time it rains some seeds escape, until the locules are empty.
And it is all repeated next year from every flower. Numerous opportunities are provided for moist seeds to be delivered in suitable spots and keep the species regenerating (Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; Letty, 1962; iNaturalist; https://www.atozflowers.com).
