A flowering Schizoglossum hamatum plant may be profusely covered in flowers during bloomtime, which is from before midsummer to early autumn.
The calyx segments are tiny, about 5 mm long and 1 mm wide, hiding almost successfully in the photo. The five corolla lobes curve in, forming a wide bowl. The lobe tips are broadly rounded and slightly curved, hood-like right at the tips. The inner surfaces on the plant in picture are dull yellow with parallel longitudinal lines in the centre and variable fainter squiggles towards the margins. The outer surfaces are dark brown in the parts that were exposed during the bud phase, yellow in other parts. The corolla lobes are from 8 mm to 11 mm long and from 4 mm to 7 mm wide.
The lemon-yellow outer corona lobes spread towards the gaps between the corolla lobes, their tips elongated up and inwards to the brown inner corona over the flower centre. They fit into the gaps between the inner corona lobes (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
