In bright light the Schizoglossum hamatum flowers show the slightly hooded corolla lobe feature. In bud these lobes overlap as seen in the partly exposed buds. Purple to brown and some yellow are the outer surface colours presented by the corolla after opening.

The corolla lobe margins may be slightly ciliate. The yellow and greenish of the outer coronas are slightly translucent. The striking contrasts in floral colour and form ironically convey the impression of the grasp by some unknown creature, one that might be repellent to visiting insects. As the plant population status in nature is of least concern, this has not deterred the pollinating visitors, or not significantly (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
