Adenandra marginata subsp. marginata, commonly known as the China flower and in Afrikaans as the kommetjieteewater (little bowl of tea water), is an aromatic, loosely branched, mainly erect shrublet that reaches 1,3 m in height.

The simple, ascending leaves are oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic with margins rolled under and acutely pointed tips that sometimes have mucro protrusions.

The subspecies distribution is in the southwest of the Western Cape from the Bokkeveld to the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The photo was taken near Tulbagh.

The habitat is fynbos slopes in sandstone derived soils. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
