Aspalathus crenata, commonly known in Afrikaans as stekeltee (prickle tea), is an erect or sprawling, sparsely branched shrub reaching 1 m in height. The upper branches are angled and slightly winged.

The species distribution is in the west of the Western Cape, from Caledon to Hangklip and northwards to the Olifants River Mountains.

The habitat is lower fynbos slopes. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2009; Bean and Johns, 2005; Burman and Bean, 1985; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
