Young stems of Ancylobotrys capensis are yellow brown to reddish from the bark, as well as from a dense hair covering. There are also scattered, brown lenticels on the younger stems.

The leaf venation is here slightly visible on upper leaf surfaces. The midribs decrease in prominence to the leaf tips on the yellowish green, concave lower surfaces.

The Ancylobotrys genus comprises about ten species, all occurring in Africa and Madagascar. Some of them are vine-like lianas that grow tendrils (Schmidt, et al, 2002; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Tree Society of South Africa, 1974; iNaturalist).
