    Lapeirousia fabricii floral zones
    Author: Ivan Lätti

At the start of blooming the floral parts of this Lapeirousia fabricii flower offer visual appeal that differs. And the bud next to it is but father to the flower.

The upper tepals have dull pinkish red patches on the outside of their lobes, confined to the central sections between the vein lines diverging in the lobes. The dorsal tepal is tallest, the stamens and style close to it. The three tepal lobes of the lower lip are about horizontal, protruding forward.

Begging hands, an interpretation that may be expected from people, translate in flower terms to convenient insect landing spots; a more sensible function in terms of plant needs (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
