People like the fynbos. The locals, South Africans from elsewhere that know it or grew up near it, as well as visitors from all over the world cherish it, for the fynbos is beautiful. It is unique and famous in the world, consisting of very many flowering plant species on comparatively little land. A wonderworld of biologically diverse lifestyles is carried on in fynbos.
Many people live next to the fynbos, have houses, businesses, roads and farms near fynbos. Fynbos is continually being removed for all these endeavours. And fynbos flowers are harvested for the home, and many homes further away on a commercial basis. The best farming land where fynbos grows becomes orchards, vineyards, meadows and farmyards. This has been going on for centuries. There are many more non-fynbos uses for the land that people can think of. And invasive exotic vegetation brought in by people usurps fynbos land, an unintended consequence.
But people do like the fynbos, don’t want it to disappear. Enough said?
