The typical Orthochilus foliosus grassland home is a peaceful place, at least among the plants. Open to the sunshine, boldly responding to the seasons, grassland residents renew summer and winter garb without fail following weather prompts. They welcome cameras, and even hungry cows, up to a point.
Distantly related to the grasses that are also monocots as the orchids, the growth efforts of these deciduous types are a concerted affair. Weather permitting, they will be lush and green in warmer times, vigorously flowering, while letting above-ground components go when the cold comes (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
