Saltera sarcocolla old flower discolouring

At the end of its floral phase, the Saltera sarcocolla stem-tip inflorescence shows four tired petals sagging around each flower’s erect column of stamens. The filaments, anthers and style have all turned darker, browner, by now. The stigma has changed colour the least, having started off dark.

Only the seemingly unperturbed bracts around the perianth tubes are carrying on, minimally changed, the durable base of functional cover over fruiting (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
