Salvia chamelaeagnea after fire

Being a resprouter from its woody rootstock, the multistemmed Salvia chamelaeagnea may already flower and feed insects when blackness and bareness still reign in parts of its immediate environment after the fire that consumed much.

The squareness of the upper stem can more or less be seen on the bigger, erect stem in the photo.

The down-curved upper lip is the darker, bluer floral part, but flower orientation may play tricks in cahoots with pedicels, albeit that they're short (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Manning, 2009; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
