    Diospyros glabra branch in winter

    Diospyros glabra branch in winter
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

This Diospyros glabra branch was photographed in Fernkloof during July. The short-stalked, alternating leaves ascend, only growing on upper branch parts. The young, upper stems have tawny hairs that fall soon. The stems among the leaves are reddish brown, only green in new growth. The slightly lower branchlets are leafless, smooth and whitish grey (Venter, 2012; iNaturalist).
