    Phylica buxifolia sorts of hairs

    Phylica buxifolia sorts of hairs
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Francelle van Zyl

Hairiness at the fruiting Phylica buxifolia stem-tip ranges from stubble to fluffiness among the parts in view. Some hairiness appears so short that it might be taken as surface coarseness.

The fruits are comprehensively short-haired, the caps at the tips whitest. The visible stem parts are more sparsely haired. The upper leaf surfaces have few hairs, quite short, while the bracts have sparse, longer stubble. All the hairiness is light in colour (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; iNaturalist).
