Pelargonium magenteum in the Ceres Karoo near the Katbakkies Pass

The persmalva or Pelargonium magenteum may be found scattered in large stands among other shrubs in the veld where they grow; spectacular in flower. The plants are not shy of scrambling over their neighbours.

The species had a name change from P. rhodanthum, recognizing the flower colour in the current name. The white colour in picture is probably the older flowers transforming.

The photo was taken in the second week of September (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
