The flowers of Lachenalia bulbifera grow in a lax raceme of pinkish red or orange red cylindrical flowers. The pedicels are long enough on mature flowers for the perianths to nod, firstly those lower down that will open first. The pedicels are longer than those of L. rubida, another red flowering Lachenalia with a semi-overlapping distribution area.
The inner tepals push out just a little further beyond the outer three in a mature flower, while the anthers remain concealed within the corolla tube. The corolla tip may show some green, although not always. Flowering commences around mid-autumn to early spring (Manning, 2007).
