White woolliness from a dense covering of velvety hairs occurs on Solanum giganteum stems. The upper stems are also armed with short straight spines of up to 5 mm in length. Bigger stems lower down have pale grey to brown bark. Pairs of small leaves can be seen growing from leaf axils as the plant branches. Some sturdy white leaf petioles that grow to 2,5 cm in length are in evidence here (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
