Satyrium humile is a slender perennial that reaches heights from 15 cm to 40 cm. Two oval leaves, up to 10 cm in length, spread around the stem base near the ground. One or a couple of conspicuous tubular leafy sheaths are spaced up the stems below the first flower. The plant forms clumps, even dense ones.
The species distribution in the Western Cape lies from Clanwilliam to the Cape Peninsula and eastwards to Riversdale. The habitat is sandstone slopes and rocky outcrops in fynbos and renosterveld, often in clayey soils; those in sandy soils sometimes achieving smaller sizes. This species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Manning, 2007; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
