In profile a Satyrium macrophyllum flower displays the forward angling of its perianth segments, the flower positioned horizontally.
Dark patches are visible in the photo on the lateral sepals near their tips. The gracefully down-curving spurs are broad at the base, pink in colour, emerging from the back of the hood or lip. They contrast in colour against the dark purple of the reflexed bracts and ovaries. The twin spurs, cylindrical in shape, become from 1,2 cm to 2 cm long (Pooley, 1998; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw).
