The three to eight leaves typically borne by a Schizochilus zeyheri plant mostly sheathe the stem and crowd near the base. The lower leaves are big, narrowly strap-shaped and point upwards. The leaves decrease in size up the stem, becoming bracts among the flowers. The biggest leaves reach about 5 cm to 8 cm in length (Pooley, 1998; www.africanorchids.dk).
