The nodding inflorescences of a male Staberoha aemula plant are distinctive. They consist of clusters of up to ten globular to ovoid spikelets per inflorescence. The small florets are hidden among the brown bracts. The klokkiesriet common name refers to the nodding male flowers.
Female florets (on different plants) grow in smaller groups. They are erect, spiky and winged with blunt petals.
Flowering happens in winter to early spring. The photo was taken in August (Dorrat-Haaksma and Linder, 2012; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
