    Raphionacme hirsuta community

    Raphionacme hirsuta may grow in ground-level stands. Here on open ground, the plants are often among rocks and grass, thriving in full sun if not for the grass, occurring at a wide range of altitudes.

    While the tuberous roots are used in brewing alcoholic beverages, the plant is also said to be poisonous. Those that do not know the safe procedures for using veld plants should leave them alone, learning the ropes and the roots first (Smith, et al, 2017; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
