Fenestraria rhopalophylla subsp. aurantiaca buds and leaves

The bud of Fenestraria rhopalophylla subsp. aurantiaca is covered by five, fleshy and roundly to bluntly pointed sepals, not quite equal. The sepal colouring in picture varies in pastel shades of pale reddish to yellow-brown.

In picture the green, cylindrical peduncles or flower stalks are already taller than the leaves that only show small parts of their sides where the sand is temporarily dislodged by wind. Leaf shape and size vary considerably, although the roundness, slightly convex top and dull translucence are always present (Grenier, 2019; Frandsen, 2017; Williamson, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998).
