    Seen from the front, the inside of the out-curving Lessertia frutescens banner petal shows distinct vein lines. They are deeper coloured here than on the outside, becoming whitish where the surface disappears inside against the keel. There is sometimes a protracted, thread-like tip on the banner.

    The bright red patch on the top of the calyx only appears when the flower is fully open, still pale green and velvety in the bud stage (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
