Paranomus reflexus bracts of two kinds

The bract next to each Paranomus reflexus flower is red-brown, becoming larger and hard after the flower opens and is pollinated. Four of these red-brown bracts are positioned in a ring around each group of four buds.

Earlier there was a larger, conspicuous bract, whitish with elongated tip below every group of four buds when the buds were a lot smaller. A few leftovers of these bigger bracts are still visible in the photo below some of the groups of four.

The broad, white bases of the bracts are densely white-woolly (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
