Muraltia spinosa before and after petals drop
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Most of these Muraltia spinosa flowers are already more fruit than flower as the petals have disappeared, leaving only the sunshade-like lateral sepals over the swelling, ovoid fruits.

Early fruit colouring is here purplish or orange with some translucence. Ripe fruits will be orange or red (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
