    Calobota cytisoides floral colouring

    Calobota cytisoides floral colouring
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Carolyn Etsebeth

These Calobota cytisoides flowers have dark brown calyces, some visible corolla veins and a coppery outer surface on a bud, i.e. the banner petal. The wing petals are not shorter than the keels here. The rich yellow corollas have hints of orange low down inside the banners.

The beetle-like visitor is understandably occupied in making most of the feast on offer, ignoring the camera (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
