Didelta carnosa var. carnosa older flowerhead

Didelta carnosa var. carnosa older flowerhead
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The older a Didelta carnosa var. carnosa flowerhead becomes, the fewer disc florets remain unopened in its centre. The open ones around the perimeter of the disc have five thread-like petal lobes each, spreading above their corolla tube.

A bud still closed under bract cover and a greyish, feathery fruithead leaving its produce open and available for dispersal, are visible among the erect leaves grey-green in picture (Manning 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
