The variable Aspalathus ciliaris plants bear leaflets of variable width across the geographical distribution of the species. The leaflets are often slender and curving in, here reddish brown at some stem-tips.
The rounded banner petal curves back, divided in half by a vertical pleat. It dominates the paired wing and keel petals in front of it in size. The back of the banner is densely covered in short, whitish hairs.
The bare stem-parts among the leaf clusters in picture are cream-coloured and hairy. There are no flowers lower down the stems (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
