    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

The bisexual flowers of Maytenus oleoides, commonly the rock candlewood or rock false candlewood, grow in compact, cyme-shaped clusters from leaf axils.

The creamy white flowers flecked with brown are small and inconspicuous. Floral parts occur in fives. The calyces are tiny and the small petals spread.

Flowering happens from before midautumn to spring (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Coates Palgrave, 2002; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
