Smicrostigma viride, previously scientifically Erepsia viride and also Mesembryanthemum viridis during different eras, is a shrublet in the mesemb family. It reaches 30 cm in height, occasionally double that. The stems are mostly fairly erect, the old ones becoming woody.
Smicrostigma is monotypic, there being no more species in the genus.
The species distribution is in the Western Cape from Worcester and the Little Karoo to Uniondale. The photo was taken at the Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn.
The habitat is renosterveld, dry fynbos and shrubby veld where the often-stony soils are loamy or sandy. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Frans Noltee Facebook notes 13 March 2019; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
