Cyphia volubilis flowers may appear more substantial on some plants, the corolla lobes shorter and wider. The dark markings in the throat are usually present.
The specific epithet, volubilis, is derived from the Latin word volvo meaning to roll, wind, turn about or tumble and the word part -bilis indicating capacity or ability, referring to the plant’s twining stems, partly visible in the photo.
There is also a club-shaped, dully striped bud preparing for opening above the open flower (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Andrew, 2017).
