Lachnaea eriocephala flowerhead

A cream to white or mauve Lachnaea eriocephala flowerhead is dense with small flowers. The pedicels elongate during fruiting.

There are no petals on the bisexual flowers, the clawed sepals forming a tube at the base, the hairiness upon them appearing uneven. The sepals are pointed with concave upper surfaces and slightly down-turned tips, the flower-shape laterally symmetrical or zygomorphic. The outer sepals are larger.

Four of the eight stamens are exserted. The stigma is brush-like. At least some lachnaeas are wind pollinated (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
