    Moraea ciliata flower close-up
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Close-up, the Moraea ciliata flower shows faint veins along the tepal parts in picture. The nectar guides end in brown patches following the veins slightly. The white basal tepal band occurs on both outer and inner tepals in this flower, the outer ones also have unexpected hairy, yellow patches which are quite small.

Nectar guides are variable in this Moraea, sometimes bigger, complex in colour design and occasionally very little yellow present (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
