Spring can also be celebrated by plants growing on vertical surfaces. Mountain slopes like this one retain minimal soil on ledges and in crevices, secured by many roots sucking at it, dependent upon its retention up there.

Like the beggar who can’t be a chooser, things are with these plants. Where the seed fell, there the plant will grow; without a murmur. And whenever the season is favourable, an ebullience of grand style living results, all stems festooned in masses of flowers. Even up here.
