    This small Pteronia fasciculata plant ensconced in rocky protection may survive veld fires due to the spot where it rooted. Hardship imposed by the environment has kept it small. The event of its first green leaves may lie quite a few years into the past.

    This species does not resprout after fire, it being a single-stemmed plant. Spreading widely comes from seeding and settling vigorously in its often arid habitat (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot).
