The leaves of Chironia baccifera, sometimes called bitterbossie (little bitter bush), are opposite, narrowly oblong or linear and spreading. Their acutely pointed tips often recurve. Leaf texture is thinly fleshy and shiny. The leaf midrib is slightly recessed.

The small pink flowers are star-shaped, five-pointed. The flower tube of 3 mm to 5 mm long is constricted above the ovary. The elliptic petals, here tapering to acute tips, may also have rounded tips (Manning, 2007; iSpot).
