Mundulea sericea subsp. sericea pods

Clusters of pale buff and flat fruit pods hang from near the tips of these Mundulea sericea subsp. sericea branches. The oblong pods, covered in golden brown, velvety hairs, have uneven surfaces, partly from showing where seeds are present inside. The pods taper at both ends.

When ripe, they will open, but without the energy of some other Fabaceae pods, the action having been described as “tardily dehiscent”.

The rough fissuring of the bark is longitudinal and uneven; deep on even these smaller, upper stems, presenting the corky feature of the bark.

The leaves are clustered at the stem tips of this semi-deciduous tree (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
